Translation, from Czech, of Zbyněk Hejda’s “Bude po jaru”

After the spring

After the spring.
And the choking nights.
As though loaded in a cart
we clatter toward love.

I am full of happiness,
everything makes me laugh.
I am full of happiness
bowing to the beautiful belly.

And it opens as a flower.
And I sink into its bowels.
Such a joke, what a joke:
it is a sepulcher.
